Refine stone settings, enlarge bearing areas with clear line-of-sight, and machine clean transitional contours in confined gallery spaces. Manufactured in Germany by NIQUA to exacting European toolmaking standards, the NIQUA® SUPER Q® Cone Squared Bur "38" (Tapered Flat) is a specialized rotary cutter engineered for goldsmiths, diamond setters, and precision model makers.
Featuring an elongated tapered body that narrows toward a flat end-cutting face, the Series 38 bur combines the clearance advantages of a cone with the depth-leveling control of a flat cylinder. The tapered sides provide visibility under high bench magnification, while the flat tip levels floors and defines seating margins without unintended gouging. Forged from premium hardened tool steel, each bur features cross-cut fluting that clears metal swarf efficiently, preventing tool clogging and galling in soft, ductile alloys including yellow gold, sterling silver, copper, and brass. Fitted with an industry-standard 2.35 mm (3/32") shank, these burs drop directly into jeweler flexible shaft handpieces, quick-change chucks, and brushless micromotors. Available in a full size progression from 0.60 mm to 2.50 mm (Item Codes: 03 210 006 to 03 210 025), each size is packaged in a bench storage box of 6 pieces.
Why Choose NIQUA® SUPER Q® Cone Squared Burs "38"
-
Tapered Body with Flat-End Geometry: The conical profile provides clearance in narrow settings, while the flat end face allows controlled depth leveling and seat truing.
-
Enhanced Bench Visibility: The slim, tapered neck keeps the view of delicate stone settings, prong intersections, and gallery walls unobstructed.
-
Simultaneous Face & Side Cutting: End-cutting flutes level the bottom of cavities while the tapered side teeth refine angled walls and smooth transitions.
-
Clog-Resistant Chip Clearance: Optimized flute gullets clear chips away from the contact point, keeping teeth sharp during deep cuts in soft precious metals.
-
Low-Vibration Concentric Operation: Precision-machined German shanks reduce radial runout, preventing chatter marks and erratic tool wander.
-
Hardened German Tool Steel: Delivers long-lasting edge retention and wear resistance across daily workshop production.
