The ultimate systematic approach to mastering platinum and titanium. Platinum is notoriously "gummy" and difficult to finish, often dragging or holding onto microscopic scratches that ruin the final luster. The Japanese jewelry trade, renowned for its reverence and mastery of platinum, relies on strict abrasive progressions to achieve perfection. The Alfa Mirage® NW Series provides a strictly quality-controlled, sequentially graded polishing system. Ranging from #800 (Coarse) to #8000 (Ultra-Fine), this system allows professional bench jewelers to predictably refine raw platinum and titanium surfaces step-by-step, guaranteeing a flawless, super-high mirror polish.
The NW Series Grit Progression Guide
For the best possible results, do not skip grits. Start with lower numbers to level the surface, and progress sequentially to the #8000 mirror finish:
-
NW-800 (Coarse / Medium Cut): The essential first step. Used for aggressive surface smoothing, leveling raw castings, and removing heavy file marks.
-
NW-1000 & NW-1500 (Medium / Soft Cut): The intermediate stage. Used to refine the deep cuts left by the #800 stage, preparing the metal for the pre-polish phase.
-
NW-2000, NW-2500 & NW-4000 (Fine Cut): The detailing stage. Specifically targets and removes stubborn hairline scratch marks that traditional rouges leave behind.
-
NW-6000 (Pre-Polish): The critical transition stage. Prepares the smoothed surface of Platinum and Titanium for the final high-gloss buff.
-
NW-8000 (Ultra-Fine / Final Polish): The ultimate finishing compound. Delivers the highly sought-after, flawless "black-mirror" luster unique to perfectly finished platinum.
Advantages
-
Exceptional Mop Adherence: Formulated with a specialized Japanese binder that adheres exceptionally well to felts, brushes, and cotton buffs. This significantly reduces compound "fly-off," saving material and keeping your workbench cleaner.
-
Strict Quality Control: Abrasive particles are uniformly blended under strict manufacturing standards. You will never find a rogue coarse particle in your #8000 bar that could ruin hours of polishing work.
-
Predictable Workflow: By following the numbered grit system, bench technicians remove the guesswork from polishing hard metals, ensuring repeatable, factory-standard results on every piece.
