not a traditional "loupe"

The Nikon lens is clear, but a bit smaller than a traditional jewelers loupe. For my hobby purposes, it will work great and I am happy with it.

Finally, optics to see more than 2D

I wondered how it could be better than the $30 10x magnifier that I purchased to grade vintage baseball cards. I did my research, and read a recommendation of this loupe from a professional jewelry blog and explained that true loupes for use are made from a specific process of combining lenses (I don’t remember exactly) but this is what allows for it not have distortion when at looking at 3D objects.When I first looked into it, it was crystal clear and for the first time I could turn a baseball card and look at a corner and see it from any angle and get a clear image of not just the plane that is parallel of the lense, but deeper and I could see the structure much better than any magnifying device I have ever used.It doesnt look like much, but I am adding it to my small collection of items I plan on having for the rest of my life. I have one $100 compass that is tremendously sensitive and high quality and high quality and other instruments or gear that are worth keeping together as things I want to keep in good condition.Is it overkill at the price for looking at baseball cards, yes. But now I have much something that I can use for other applications. But honestly, I thought I wouldn’t see that much of a difference in quality, but I had the money to spare and I thought this was a stupid purchase until I used it. There is definitely a difference.

Small field of view, but very sharp center

Takes a bit of practice to focus and stay focused since the field of view is compact. There is slight edge softness when locked onto the center, but the optical clarity is definitely high quality.
