ORO® Split Felt Lap Wheel

Slotted felt laps engineered for absolute visual control and thermal management. While solid felt laps are excellent for broad, flat surfaces, certain bench tasks require surgical precision to avoid damaging adjacent details. The ORO® Split Felt Lap Wheel features precision-cut radial slots. When spinning at high speeds, these slots create a "see-through" effect, allowing the operator to view the exact contact point between the wheel and the workpiece. Simultaneously, the slots generate airflow, actively cooling the metal to prevent heat warping or burning during aggressive pre-polishing stages.

Density Selection Guide

Select the appropriate hardness based on the required geometric rigidity of your workpiece:

• Flint Hard & Rock Hard: Maximum density with zero flex. Mandatory for maintaining absolute flat surfaces and crisp angles.

• Hard & Medium: The standard for general-purpose precision leveling. Offers aggressive compound retention with a very slight surface yield.

• Soft: The most forgiving option. Conforms slightly to gently curved surfaces while still offering the visual benefits of the slotted design.

Advantages

• "See-Through" Visibility: At operating speeds (up to 3450 RPM), the slotted design allows the bench technician to look directly "through" the spinning edge of the wheel to monitor the exact progress of the cut.

• Active Air Cooling: The radial slots act as a built-in fan. This draws cool air across the workpiece, significantly reducing friction heat. This is crucial when polishing thin fabricated metals that are prone to heat warping.

• Swarf Ejection: The split design creates wiping edges that naturally eject metal dust (swarf) and spent polishing compound, keeping the cutting surface of the wheel clean and efficient.

• Edge Retention: Like all hard felts, it prevents the rounding of sharp geometric edges and chamfers during heavy scratch removal.
