Borax cones can produce flux paste to protect sensitive areas during soldering. The rough-machined disc is used with the borax cone to produce a flux slurry that can be used to protect the sensitive areas of the workpiece from the heat during soldering. To produce a slurry, add a few drops of distilled water to the dish, then carefully and vigorously rub the borax cone against the bottom, until a mushy slurry is produced.
